This new feature surf club building includes highly detailed cantilever terrace areas and extensive steel framed glazed façade elements at this highly corrosive, coastal exposed site. Surf club facilities are focused at ground floor including a fuel store for surf craft, community café and changerooms, while the first floor is a single open plan room with folded ceilings and large 11m clear span, openable glass door areas to capture the spectacular views.
Reinforced concrete suspended floor structures were designed to span up to 10 metres and cantilever up to 5 metres, with concealed upstand beams. An award winning feature of the building is the glazed brickwork which was highly engineered to endure the salt laden air and high winds with the same coloured glazed pattern extended as a wrap around onto the unique roof tiled finish.
