The new Scientia Building at St Patrick’s College is a focus point and future proof expansion of the highly regarded school in Sydney. The new five storey building includes a three storey undercover void and undercover parking for over 100 vehicles with feature planter boxes surrounding 3 sides of the building to soften the exterior of such a large building.
Post tensioned reinforced concrete floor plates and beams were the appropriate solution after review of mass timber schemes and steel framed options. A feature façade of louvre tension wire supported screen elements faces the sports field and the largest structural challenge of the project was to achieve the rooftop sports court placement with learning spaces set below and surrounding this is an enclosure of a tension net system for ball control.
This significant project is part of the expanding school future planning to allow St Patrick’s College to support the growing school community.
