The project is the renovation of a brick, stone and timber house. Additions included a new garage/studio and feature living room extension to the existing house involving careful integration of feature exposed hardwood members with concealed steel members for critical bracing elements in significantly open plan space, and torsion members to support awnings. Ground floor slab also maximised ‘floating’ cantilever edges effect while achieving optimal cost effectiveness with bondek construction. Detailing required successful collaboration between architect, builder and engineer throughout both the design and construction phases to fully realise the architectural intent.
